About BBL Forever Bare

BBL Forever Bare is Sciton’s next-generation approach to light-based hair removal, offering a fast, effective, and comfortable treatment experience.

It uses broadband light energy (rather than a single wavelength laser) to target the pigment (melanin) within the hair shaft. When the light is absorbed by the hair follicle, it is converted into gentle heat, damaging the follicle and reducing its ability to produce new hair.

Unlike traditional hair removal methods, BBL Forever Bare delivers energy in multiple rapid bursts, evenly heating follicles while keeping the skin cool and protected. This approach minimises discomfort and reduces the risk of adverse reactions, even on sensitive areas.

Common treatment areas include the underarms, bikini line, face, legs, arms, back, and chest.

All treatments are performed by qualified and Radiation Council of WA–registered practitioners using medical-grade Sciton devices under medical supervision.

How BBL Hair Removal Works

BBL Forever Bare directs controlled pulses of light energy into the skin, which selectively target and heat the pigment within active hair follicles. This controlled heating process disrupts the follicle’s ability to regrow hair, leading to gradual reduction over a series of sessions.

Because hair grows in cycles – active (anagen), resting (telogen), and shedding (catagen) – not all hairs can be treated in a single session. Multiple treatments are therefore required to capture hair as it transitions through active growth phases.

Over time, this process results in:

  • Progressive reduction of unwanted hair growth

  • Softer, finer regrowth (if any)

  • Smoother, more even skin texture

BBL hair removal can be used on most skin types, though results and number of sessions vary based on hair colour, skin tone, hormonal factors, and area treated.

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

Following a full consultation with our Dermal Therapists (who are also registered IPL/BBL technicians) your suitability for the treatment will be determined.

There are a few pre-treatment instructions that must be adhered to prior to having BBL hair removal.

These include:

  • No plucking or waxing the hair for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment
  • Ensure the area has been shaved the day of the treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure, sun tanning or fake tan in the 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Avoid any cosmetics or creams on the area on the day of treatment. This is to ensure the hair follicles to be treated are intact and the surrounding skin remains at less risk of damage during the treatment.

During the treatment, your skin will be protected with a cooling gel and appropriate eyewear.

You may feel a warm snap sensation, similar to an elastic band flick, as each light pulse is delivered. Most people describe the procedure as comfortable and quick.

How long do results last?

The results of BBL hair removal depend on completion of a full course of treatments.

As the treatment will only target hairs in the active growing phase (some hairs may be in the dormant resting phase during treatment), multiple treatments are necessary to target all unwanted hairs while they are in the growth phase. Depending on the client’s skin type, hair type, the area of hair that is treated (ie bikini versus chin) there may be a degree of variability between the number of treatments needed.

BBL Forever Bare provides long-lasting reduction in hair growth when a full course is completed. Maintenance treatments may be recommended annually or as needed, depending on hormonal influences and hair type.

Areas such as the face, underarms, and bikini line may require additional touch-ups due to hormonal activity.

What happens after my treatment?

Following treatment, mild redness or swelling may occur — this is a normal response and usually resolves within 24 hours.

Post-treatment care includes:

  • Avoiding sun exposure and applying SPF 50+ daily

  • Refraining from hot showers, saunas, or strenuous exercise for 24 hours

  • Avoiding exfoliation or active skincare for 3–5 days

In the days following, treated hairs may shed naturally as part of the skin renewal process. It’s important not to pick, wax, or pluck the area during this time.

Most individuals begin to notice some reduction in hair growth after 2–3 sessions, with optimal results achieved after a course of treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

Full post treatment and after care instructions will be provided following your treatment.

What are the risks of treatment?

All laser and light-based procedures carry potential risks. At Youth Lab, all BBL hair removal treatments are performed by trained, Radiation Council–registered technicians using Sciton’s advanced cooling and safety systems.

Temporary redness, mild swelling, or follicular inflammation may occur and typically resolve within 24 hours.

Rare but possible complications include:

  • Blistering, burns, or pigment changes
  • Reactivation of cold sores (on lip areas)
  • Infection or scarring (if skin is picked or exposed to sun post treatment)

BBL hair removal is not suitable for individuals who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of keloid scarring

  • Have had recent sun exposure or fake tan use

All treatments at Youth Lab are performed under appropriate clinical supervision by qualified practitioners, in line with current safety and professional standards
